Vision Statement --To train women to cause no unnecessary harm with a firearm. To inspire a generation of women to reach and teach the next generation, regardless of gender, about firearm use, safety, and gun laws for the state of Virginia.
Mission Statement -- To provide a safe space where women can learn about firearm use and safety without fear or intimidation. Providing an environment which will foster confidence, pride, and knowledge. We will focus on the when, where, and how to use and carry a firearm according to Virginia state law.
Simply owning and carrying a firearm is only half of the equation. The other half is mental, and it's a decision you need to make before walking out the door with a gun on your hip or in your purse.
The one with the gun is in command. You should intend to only draw your weapon in dire emergencies — when there is no other choice except to use the firearm or see yourself or other innocent persons die or be seriously harmed. Any use of force out of anger, retribution, or a misplaced sense of justice is a crime.
“It’s better to avoid a fight than to win one.” What this means is that it’s better for you to keep your head about you, pay attention to your surroundings, and be able to avoid trouble than it is for you to be able to shoot your way out of a life-threatening attack.
After a confrontation where a firearm has been used, the police are no longer there to serve and protect you, they are there to serve the prosecutor and protect any case he or she may choose to file. Like they say in the movies, anything you say will be used against you in a court of law.
We are promoting a woman's sense of self-worth, her ability to determine her own choices, and her right to influence social change for herself and others.
The Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms.
Most Americans would agree the "unalienable" right of life and liberty would include the right to be free from murder, rape, robbery, assault, and mass shootings.
Guns and gun policy are poised to be the subject of heated debate in Richmond this year as Virginia lawmakers and leaders seek to address gun violence in response to a string of recent shootings in the state.
Republicans are proposing tougher mandatory-minimum penalties for using a gun during the commission of a crime, and Democrats are proposing a slate of tougher gun-control legislation, like a ban on assault-style weapons and requiring gun owners to lock up firearms when children are present.
Remember...there is a tragedy in being unprepared; and the best fight, is the one you are not in.
There is more to self-defense than carrying a gun. Don't let the fact that you carry give you a false sense of security...if you're not properly trained, your gun is a liability.
Heels & Steel Training Institute provide opportunities for all women to learn about guns, buying, shooting, and cleaning them, their Second Amendment rights, and Virginia law. If you don't exercise your rights daily, they may not be there when you need them. All of our rights have battles behind them. Our ancestors fought to give them to us, it is up to each of us to preserve them.
The difference between a victim and a survivor isn't simply chance. It's very often the difference between someone who is willing to commit to an armed lifestyle, and someone who is not. It's the difference between someone who is consciously aware of everyone and everything in their immediate environment, and someone who is not. Or, it may boil down to the difference between someone who is willing to make a commitment to train frequently with their firearm, and someone who does not. So, untrained victim or trained survivor, which will you be?
